Foundation Phase

Building a Strong Foundation for Life

Building a Solid Base

The Foundation Phase is the first phase of formal schooling. It is about developing a solid base of knowledge for children and helping them further themselves in the school environment and life.

Foundation Phase is all about the basics. Children need to learn concepts and how to apply them. They need assistance at home and school to build a strong foundational knowledge that will assist them through school and later lead them to become independent learners.

Our Powerful Programmes

1. Preschool with Ace and Christi (Grade R)

Lays a solid foundation on which to build the rest of a child’s education. This full-year Grade R programme features a complete scope and sequence of concepts and skills needed to prepare children to be ready to read. It complements the learning-to-read programme and includes 12 colour PACEs in each core subject: Word Building, Math, English, Social Studies, and Science.

2. ABCs with Ace and Christi (Grade 1)

A multisensory, phonetic, learning-to-read programme designed to prepare a child for the individualised Learning-to-Read programme. The programme encourages verbal and written communication through the use of games, songs, stories, poems, and many other fun activities that young learners will enjoy. It promotes auditory processing, eye-hand coordination, and visual perception.

3. Foundation Mathematics (Grades 1-3)

Basic Math skills are introduced, developed, mastered, reviewed, and consistently reinforced in a variety of imaginative ways. Students learn numbers, counting, simple addition and subtraction, measurement of time and volume, and South African money values. By Grade 2 and 3, they explore carrying, borrowing, and word problems to prepare for the Intermediate Phase.
